Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus

Revelation is defined as the voice of the Creator God who is outside time and space, yet, who speaks to His people. Hence, faith is put forth as a supernatural virtue which is submitted to revelation, which is proposed by the Church to the faithful based on the authority of God and His revealed Word. from this authoritative revealed Word and upon the authority of God Himself, the Church forms dogma, which are unchangeable truths that the faithful accept in full not in part.

Because of this clear and unshakeable stand that the Church makes, the only way one can get to heaven and receive the salvation of their soul is through the Cross of Christ and the Blood that was shed at the Calvary event. The truth in this instance is very objective and undeniable. Hence, out of this the Church boldly makes the stand: Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus (outside the Church there is no salvation).

Indeed it is true that outside the Church there is no salvation. Sadly, many have turned away from this for the sake of 'frienship' with other religions. They look at these words as religious pride, but fail to realize that it is because of extra ecclesiam nulla salus, that we have a parish in our own neighbourhood. It is this phrase that sparks the great missionary efforts. It is because of this teaching of the Church that Christ is brought to all men...

Keep up ur good work!

From the CCC

"Outside the Church there is no salvation"

846 How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers?335 Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body:

Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.

847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:

Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.

848 "Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men."

How's your Penang trip coming?

The Penang trip isn't confirmed yet. I'm considering an offer to the Phillippines for a Mission.

Should I go to Penang, I'll be putting up with my extended relatives in Penang's Little India, George Town. Just in case you're wondering, I'm not Indian. ;)

You can delete this comment after you see it, but I just wanted to tell you that it is Extra ecclesiam nulla salus. Not solus.

Do drop me a mail should you decide to come. Mark and me can meet you.

Opps! Thanks for the note. I will definatley drop you an e-mail should I head to Penang. I am waiting the details of the Phillipine Mission from the organizers in the States.

United in prayer,
Paul
