'15 Steps' to Becoming a Seminarian

As promised, here's a rough guide as to how a candidate is admitted into the Seminary.

The information presented below reflects the admission process for St. Fancis Xavier Major Seminary, Diocese of Singapore.

DISCERNMENT

Months 1 to 6

Step 1: Attend vocation retreats and recollections
Step 2: Journeying with appointed Vocation Discernment Director
Step 3: Introduction to Seminary Fathers

Months 7 to 9

Step 4: First personal interview with Fathers of Admission Board
Step 5: Invitation to stay in the Seminary (weekend or one week)

April

Step 6: Aspirant indicates his desire to be admitted
Step 7: Psychological test

May

Step 8: Second personal interview with Fathers of Admission Board & Preliminary deliberation of the Admission Board

June

Step 9: 8-day discernment retreat

APPLICATION

July

Step 10: Formal application to join the Seminary

August

Step 11: Request confidential reports from referees

September

Step 12: Medical examination and report

October

Step 13: Final Deliberation of the Admission Board

November

Step 14: Official interview with Bishop

December

Step 15: Tender resignation to employer (if the candidate is working)

Prayer for Seminarians

O Jesus, Eternal High Priest,I offer You through Your Immaculate Mother Mary, Your Own Precious Blood, in all the Masses throughout the world, as petition for graces for all seminarians, Your future priests.

Give them humility, meekness, prudence, and a burning zeal for souls.

Fill their hearts with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to know and love the Church, that they may always and everywhere speak, act, and think with her, the glorious spouse of Christ.

Teach them generosity and detachment from worldly goods; but above all, teach them to know You and to love the One and Only Eternal Priest.

Good Shepherd of Souls, hear this my prayer for saintly priests.v Amen.

I'm an independent and conservative person who has a consistently positive demeanor. I'm easy to get along with as long as you are not intensely socially awkward... Though I'm mostly introverted unless I am in a comfortable crowd, I can open up very quickly to those who care to strike a conversation. For better or for worst, there are times where I enjoy being away from everyone just to be alone with my thoughts. Though I'm not judgmental, I do draw conclusions based on the things people say or the way they act. I can be blunt if I am not dancing around an issue. My Catholic faith plays a big part in the playing fields of my life. Reserved yet spontaneous, optimistic yet realistic, serious yet goofy, that's me- or at least that's what I think!

O Jesus, Eternal Priest, keep all Thy priests within the shelter of Thy Sacred Heart, where none may harm them. Keep unstained their anointed hands which daily touch Thy Sacred Body. Lord Jesus Christ, in Your infinite love You instituted the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at the Last Supper. In the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, You continue to pour forth the same graces and spiritual blessings that once flowed from the Sacramental Fountain of Your opened side. Lord, we thank You for manifestating Your Divine Love for us by becoming Sacramentally present in the Eucharistic Species. We beseech You, our Almightly Lord and King, to defend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass from all abuses and sacrileges. Arise Lord, and deliver us, we humbly pray, from these detestable and abominable acts of impiety that threaten the blessed memory of Your sorrowful passion, cruel death, and glorious resurrection.
