St. Joseph's Church II

Related: St. Joseph's Church I, St. Joseph's Church III

Remember this post? Here's are more of the photos I promised. Many of the photos here are from 'restricted' areas of the Church. I only managed to get them as I was inspecting a leak from the main dome whilst cleaning the church. Now, this is what I call a true Catholic Church.

Enjoy!

A view of the Rectory form the central dome of the Church

Looking down from the spiral cast iron staircase

Top of the spiral staircase (Looking down from the left dome)

A view of the Sanctuary from the Choir/Organ Loft

Another view at a different angle

The cast iron spiral staircase that leads to the left dome

The church bells (They are the only bells in Singapore that toll for the 12 noon Angelus)

The old baptistry (Jesus baptised by St. John Baptist)

I had to climb through a window- in an undignified manner- to get here...

This ladder leads to the central dome

Comments:
May I ask what are those 'gold tibetian bells' doing on top of SJC? Had seen it several times while passing by on a double-deck bus. Please help with the 'mystery'.

I think those are electronic bells.

Oh no.....so modern!!!!!!!!!

Well anon (if you're the same anon who has been leaving a string of comments lately), you could always travel back in time to kill Pope John XXIII- who dared open the doors and windows of the church he loved to the contemporary world- so that there wouldn't be a council that would possibly lead to change.

besides, point out which photo in this post is 'modern'.

Al is right, I challenge anon. to point out which photo in this post is modern.

Perhaps the better question to ask is, why is there an electronic bell installed when they have several nice authentic good 'ole bells? I have heard both elsewhere and somehow still could recognize the artificial sound coming from the electronic version.

On weekdays, the electronic bells are used instead. Those who frequent St. Joe's will know that the Church is also dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima, therefore, the electronic bells are sounded to resemble exactly those in Fatima (where Our Lady appeared).

I like it personally and don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Hmm... the Bells at Novena Church (Church of St Alphonsus) also toll for the Angelus.
