As a Filipinio...

... I feel totally ashamed (perhaps being a Singaporean Citizen and living in the Island State made me feel less obliged) not posting on this- The Black Nazarene Procession. The Black Nazarene Procession is "the Granddaddy of all processions" in the Philippines.

"Filipino Catholicism" can be at first glance shcoking and even repulsive to the first-timer due to the loud and emotional manner in which it is practiced. However, behind the curtain always lies true love and devotion to our Lord and Saviour; I am always touched to see how countless number of Filipinos, although struck with poverty, have unconditional love and faith in the Lord. This is the kind of simple faith that Jesus commanded us to have. Not pious frauds.

I believe that inculturization was one of the important factors spread and sustained Catholicism in the Archipelago. Now, it is almost impossible to seperate Catholicism from Filipino culture. In the words of the Archbishop of New Delhi, "The message (Word of God as revealed by the Catholic Church) must be accepted, lived, and expressed within each culture. Thus we have to have, for example, in India, a truly Indian Church. The Thai Church is truly Thai and at the same time Catholic. The goal of union with the universal Church must be maintained through the sense of communion." It is this sense of identity that binds people to the faith.

Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

"On Tuesday, December 12th, the priests and seminarians of OLGS celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with hymns, prayers and with the religious and social customs that have evolved here in Denton over the years. Beginning at 6:30 am on what turned out to be a rather chilly morning, the community along with two dozen parishioners from the Fraternity’s parish in Lincoln gathered at an outdoor shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe, located a short distance from the seminary. From there the group processed by candlelight to the refectory where an indoor shrine that had been erected in her honor. During the procession in which her statue was reverently carried aloft, traditional Marian hymns were sung in Spanish. When the community arrived at the refectory, the statue was crowned and placed on a pedestal. Then Subdeacon Dennis Gordon, FSSP read the story of her apparition on the hill of Tepeynac overlooking Mexico City in 1531. This was followed by a Spanish serenade played on the guitar by seminarian Jose Macias. Finally, after a farewell hymn, the community retired to the chapel to chant Lauds and a Solemn High Mass."

Church Suffering



O Immaculate Mother, Queen of Heaven, hear the cries of your suffering children in purgatory and intercede for them at the throne of the Almighty. O Jesus, Eternal Priest, keep all Thy priests within the shelter of Thy Sacred Heart, where none may harm them. Keep unstained their anointed hands which daily touch Thy Sacred Body. For An End To Abuses

Lord Jesus Christ, in Your infinite love You instituted the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at the Last Supper. In the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, You continue to pour forth the same graces and spiritual blessings that once flowed from the Sacramental Fountain of Your opened side. Lord, we thank You for manifestating Your Divine Love for us by becoming Sacramentally present in the Eucharistic Species. We beseech You, our Almightly Lord and King, to defend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass from all abuses and sacrileges. Arise Lord, and deliver us, we humbly pray, from these detestable and abominable acts of impiety that threaten the blessed memory of Your sorrowful passion, cruel death, and glorious resurrection. Send forth Your Holy Spirit to illuminate the hearts of all Your priests. Give them a spirit of reverence, humility, patience and love. Enkindle in their hearts a more fervent love for the Eucharist. Lord, You are the True Light of the world, radiate Your Light now to dispel the traps and snares that the evil one has set before Your priests. We pray especially pray for Your priest(s), N., the shepherd(s) to whom You have entrusted the duty of the salvation of souls. O Lord, grant all of us true faith.
